The commercial license option

DALICC is free software, published under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 only (AGPL-3.0-only). The full text is in LICENSE, the overview in LICENSING.md. If the AGPL suits you, you need nothing from this page.

The same software is also available under a commercial licence from the association, as an alternative to the AGPL. This is meant for organisations that cannot or do not wish to comply with the AGPL, most often because section 13 of the AGPL requires them to offer the complete corresponding source of their modified version to everyone who uses it over a network. Typical cases:

  • running a modified DALICC as an internal or customer-facing service while keeping the modifications private;
  • embedding DALICC in a product whose own licence terms are incompatible with the AGPL;
  • internal policy or contractual obligations that rule out copyleft licences.

Write with a short description of what you want to do: which parts of DALICC, deployed how, for how many users or installations, and whether you need support.

What a commercial licence typically covers

  • use of the software without the obligations of the AGPL;
  • the right to modify it and to keep those modifications private;
  • deployment as a network service inside your organisation or for your customers, without the source offer of AGPL section 13;
  • optionally, a support and maintenance arrangement.

What it does not cover

  • No transfer of copyright. The association and the contributors keep their rights; you receive a licence, not ownership.
  • No rights in the DALICC name, the DALICC logo or any other brand asset. Trademark and branding rights are not part of a software licence and are agreed separately if they are needed at all.
  • No rights beyond what the association itself holds, and none in the third-party components listed in THIRD_PARTY.md, which keep their own licences in every case.
  • Not the data. licensedata/** is published under CC-BY-4.0 and stays available on those terms to everybody, with or without a commercial licence.

How it works

Terms are agreed individually, in writing. Scope, duration, territory, support and fees depend on what you actually need, so there is no price list and no click-through agreement on this page. Ask and you get a concrete offer.
