Change license from the text Not permitted: Change license. Replacing the license of the work, or of an adaptation, with another license, or changing its terms.
-
Commercial use from the text Not permitted: Commercial use. The text says: "You may not exercise any of the rights granted to You in Section 3 above in any manner that is primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation." Using the work to generate income, directly or indirectly, for example by selling it or by using it in advertising.
-
Royalty collection reserved from the text Not permitted: Royalty collection reserved. The text says: "Licensor reserves the exclusive right to collect, whether individually or via a performance rights society (e.g. ASCAP, BMI, SESAC), royalties for the public performance or public digital performance (e.g. webcast) of the Work if that performance is primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation." Collecting royalties for uses of the work, individually or through a collecting society, under a right the licensor keeps.
-
Sublicense from the text Not permitted: Sublicense. The text says: "You may not offer or impose any terms on the Work that alter or restrict the terms of this License or the recipients' exercise of the rights granted hereunder. You may not sublicense the Work." Granting a third party rights in the work under a license of the licensee's own, rather than passing on the original license.
License-wide duties
-
Share alike from the text Adaptations have to be licensed under the same license or one the license names as compatible.
What applies by default
The statements above are the library's reading of this license: each is marked with the sentence it rests on, or as a library convention where the text is not explicit. The statements below are the ones the DALICC reasoner supplies for acts the license says nothing about, from the default rules of the dependency graph it reasons with. Each one names the legal source it rests on. None of it is in the record.
-
Promote by default rule (adopted) Using the name or trademarks of the licensor or of contributors to endorse or promote a product.
This license says nothing about Promote, and the graph applies this reading in all jurisdictions it covers: it is not permitted unless the license permits it.
A licence that says nothing about endorsement is read as not allowing it: the licence gives the licensee no right to use the licensor's name or marks in a way that states or implies that the licensor endorses the licensee or its product, while stating truthfully that a work is based on or uses the licensed work is a different act that this rule does not decide. A copyright licence grants rights in the work, and the right to use a name or a trademark is a separate right under trademark law and the protection of names, which a silent copyright licence does not pass on. Combining a licence that is silent about endorsement with one that permits it shows a conflict marked as coming from this rule.
Basis Trademark and name rights are separate from copyright: Regulation (EU) 2017/1001 article 9 lets the proprietor of an EU trade mark prevent all third parties not having his consent from using the sign in the course of trade, and Directive (EU) 2015/2436 article 10, 15 U.S.C. 1114 and 1125(a), section 12 BGB and section 43 ABGB protect marks and names in the same way. The library's evidence is Creative Commons 4.0 section 2(b)(2): Patent and trademark rights are not licensed under this Public License. A copyright licence that is silent grants no right to use the licensor's name or marks to suggest endorsement (Worldwide)
Further terms
These are the things the license says about itself beyond the acts it permits, forbids and requires: when it ends, how long there is to put a breach right, which law governs it, and so on. A term that comes from the DALICC vocabulary links to its definition.

The record models the generic text of Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0, the original that the Creative Commons jurisdiction ports of this version were adapted from. It copies the model of CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0, the 4.0 record of the same element set, and departs from it only where the 2.0 text departs from the 4.0 text. Version 2.0 added the musical and webcasting royalty clauses and the file-sharing sentence, and both are in the record.

info Rubric 1
spdx:licenseIdappliedFile name, identifier, SPDX identifier and IRI agree. The record models the generic original of version 2.0, which the library did not hold: it held the 4.0 International record of this element set and the jurisdiction ports adapted from version 2.0. The record is not a port, so it carries no dalicc:jurisdictionPortOf and no country; cc:jurisdiction is dalicc:worldwide and dalicc:variantKind is "version", the kind docs/DATA.md gives a record that is an earlier version of a text the library holds.
-
info Rubric 2
odrl:targetappliedOne odrl:AssetCollection of dct:type dalicc:CreativeWork. dcmitype:Dataset is left out: the words "database" and "sui generis" do not occur anywhere in this legal code, so the text neither licenses nor waives a database right. CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 carries dcmitype:Dataset because Section 4 of the 4.0 text licenses the sui generis database right, and the German 3.0 ports carry it because their adapted text does. This record differs from both on that point, and the difference is in the texts.
-
major Rubric 3
odrl:permissionappliedSection 3 grants a license to reproduce the Work, "to create and reproduce Derivative Works", and to distribute, display publicly, perform publicly and perform publicly by means of a digital audio transmission both the Work and Derivative Works. That is odrl:reproduce, odrl:distribute, odrl:display, odrl:present, odrl:modify, dalicc:ModifiedWorks, odrl:derive and cc:DerivativeWorks, the same set CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 carries.
-
major Rubric 4
odrl:prohibitionappliedThe NonCommercial element reads: "You may not exercise any of the rights granted to You in Section 3 above in any manner that is primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation." cc:CommercialUse is therefore a prohibition and not a permission. The licence adds: "The exchange of the Work for other copyrighted works by means of digital file-sharing or otherwise shall not be considered to be intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation, provided there is no payment of any monetary compensation in connection with the exchange of copyrighted works." dalicc:chargeDistributionFee stays a permission, which is the reading CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 and the ports of this element set already carry: a fee for the act of transferring a copy is not the commercial advantage the clause bars. dalicc:chargeLicenseFee is not written, because the licence bars charging for the grant itself.
-
major Rubric 4
odrl:prohibitionappliedSection 4(a) reads: "You may not offer or impose any terms on the Work that alter or restrict the terms of this License or the recipients' exercise of the rights granted hereunder. You may not sublicense the Work." That is dalicc:sublicense prohibited, which review decision 1 of 2026-09-15 requires of every Creative Commons record except the CC0 dedication, and dalicc:ChangeLicense prohibited, which library convention 15 expressly keeps for this family because the no-downstream-restrictions clause is the bar the rule otherwise denies.
-
minor Rubric 4
odrl:prohibitionapplieddalicc:promote is prohibited, as it is on CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 and on the ports of this element set. Version 2.0 has no endorsement sentence in its restrictions: the nearest text is the paragraph that closes the document, "Except for the limited purpose of indicating to the public that the Work is licensed under the CCPL, neither party will use the trademark "Creative Commons" or any related trademark or logo of Creative Commons without the prior written consent of Creative Commons". Unlike the 3.0 text, this version does not say that the paragraph falls outside the License. The paragraph is quoted in dalicc:additionalClauses so a reader can judge it.
-
major Rubric 4
odrl:prohibitionappliedThe licence reserves the royalty collection against the licensee: "Licensor reserves the exclusive right to collect, whether individually or via a performance rights society (e.g. ASCAP, BMI, SESAC), royalties for the public performance or public digital performance (e.g. webcast) of the Work if that performance is primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation." dalicc:royaltyCollectionReserved says exactly that and is written as a prohibition, because it is the licensee who may not exercise the reserved right. The term was defined by the review of 2026-09-15 and applied to no record until now; the whole clause is quoted in dalicc:additionalClauses.
-
major Rubric 5
odrl:dutyappliedSection 4(a) reads: "You must include a copy of, or the Uniform Resource Identifier for, this License with every copy or phonorecord of the Work" and the attribution clause asks You to "keep intact all copyright notices for the Work" and to name the Original Author and the title. cc:Attribution and cc:Notice therefore hang on odrl:distribute, on odrl:modify and on odrl:derive, where dalicc:modificationNotice joins them because the licence asks for "a credit identifying the use of the Work in the Derivative Work" . The duties hang on the acts that trigger them, not on the odrl:Set.
-
major Rubric 5
odrl:dutyappliedThe ShareAlike element is a licence-wide cc:ShareAlike duty on the odrl:Set, which is reciprocity shape 1 and what CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 and every port of this element set carry. Section 4(b) sets its scope and the licences it accepts, and the record says so twice over: dalicc:reciprocityScope names how far it reaches and dalicc:shareAlikeVersionQualifier names the outgoing licences, as "this License, a later version of this License with the same License Elements, or a Creative Commons iCommons license with the same License Elements". The qualifier had been applied to no record. The whole of 4(b) is quoted in dalicc:additionalClauses.
-
gap Rubric 8
dalicc:additionalClausesnoneTwo clauses the record quotes rather than models, because CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 and the 287 ports do not model them either and a single set of records should not change the family on its own. The first is the technological measures sentence: "You may not distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, or publicly digitally perform the Work with any technological measures that control access or use of the Work in a manner inconsistent with the terms of this License Agreement." dalicc:applyTechnicalProtectionMeasures exists and would carry it as a prohibition. The second is Section 8: "the Licensor offers to the recipient a license to the Work on the same terms and conditions as the license granted to You under this License", which dalicc:downstreamOffer describes exactly; odrl:grantUse cannot carry it, because the dependency graph makes odrl:grantUse the same action as dalicc:sublicense and this licence prohibits sublicensing. Both are proposals for the whole Creative Commons family rather than for this record.
-
major Rubric 7
dalicc:terminatesOnBreachappliedSection 7(a) reads: "This License and the rights granted hereunder will terminate automatically upon any breach by You of the terms of this License." dalicc:terminatesOnBreach is true and no dalicc:curePeriod is written, because this generation of the licence has no reinstatement clause: once the licence ends, it ends. The 4.0 text added the 30-day reinstatement, and CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 carries neither property today. Section 7(b) says "the license granted here is perpetual (for the duration of the applicable copyright in the Work)", so dalicc:validityType is dalicc:perpetual, and the text names no legal system, so cc:jurisdiction is dalicc:worldwide.
-
minor Rubric 6
dalicc:WarrantyDisclaimerappliedThe warranty disclaimer and the limitation of liability are separate sections and are quoted into separate properties, which is family rule 10. Both are quoted verbatim, including the spelling of the source text ("MERCHANTIBILITY", "THE PRESENCE OF ABSENCE OF ERRORS"). The text of CC-BY-NC-SA-2.0 carries no long dash, so no quotation needed a hyphen in place of one. Line breaks inside a quoted clause are collapsed to single spaces, the way CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 writes its clauses; the ports keep the line breaks of their own source.
-
info Rubric 9
recordnoneThe consistency check of app.services.composer against the axioms of licensedata/dependencygraph/dg_default.ttl returned no conflicts.
-
info Rubric 10
recordnoneThe nearest sibling is CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0, and the nearest port is the 2.0 port of this element set. The record carries the same permissions, duties and prohibitions as CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 and differs from it in five things, all of them differences between the two texts: no dcmitype:Dataset on the target, dalicc:terminatesOnBreach with no cure period, dalicc:licenseVersion "2.0" with dalicc:variantKind "version", the clause quotes of this generation of the text, and the statements this version adds (dalicc:royaltyCollectionReserved, dalicc:moralRightsRestriction, dalicc:shareAlikeVersionQualifier and dalicc:reciprocityScope where the text has them).
-
minor Rubric 10
dalicc:additionalClausesappliedThe six records of this version quote the same passages of the version's text, each literal a single verbatim run of this record's own legal code, in the order the text states them. A passage the element set does not have is absent, which is a difference between the texts and not between two readings.
-
minor Rubric 4
odrl:prohibitionapplieddalicc:promote was prohibited and no sentence of this text supports it. The statement was the library's reading of a legal default, that a copyright licence which says nothing about endorsement grants no right to it, and it sat in 519 of 581 records as a house convention. That reading is now an adopted dalicc:DefaultRule of the core dependency graph, which supplies it to every licence that is silent about the action, so a compatibility check reaches the same answer and the record states only what the text states. Removed on 2026-09-23; see section 13 of docs/LICENSE_REVIEW.md.
-
major Rubric 10
dalicc:compatibleWithappliedThe share-alike clause lets an adaptation be released under "this License, a later version of this License with the same License Elements, or a Creative Commons iCommons license with the same License Elements". CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 is that later version of the same License Elements, so the record links it. dalicc:compatibleWith names CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0.

History
This license model has 2 versions. Version 2 is the one served today; every earlier version keeps its own address, so a conclusion drawn from one of them can still be checked against it.
-
Version 2 current2026-09-24 Giray Havur
The changes since version 1 left endorsement to the default rule of the core dependency graph, recorded which sentence of the text each statement rests on, named the license the record itself is published under, recorded the licenses a work under it may be released under and removed the quotes that do not name the act they support.
